Daniel Muñiz Quintanilla
Mr. Muñiz Quintanilla is a seasoned mining executive with nearly 30 years of global experience leading large public companies across the gold, silver and copper sectors. From 2014 to 2018, he served as Managing Director (CEO) and Executive Vice Chair of Americas Mining, the mining division of Grupo Mexico, S.A.B. de C.V. (BMV: GMEXICOB), one of the world’s largest publicly traded copper producers and the parent company of Southern Copper Corporation (NYSE: SCCO). In this role, he oversaw a multinational portfolio of large-scale open-pit and underground operations and major growth initiatives across copper and previous-metals assets. From 2010 to 2014, Mr. Muñiz was CEO of Industrial Minera Mexico, Grupo Mexico’s underground mining division, and earlier served as the Group’s Chief Financial Officer from 2007 to 2014, directing global finance, capital markets, and M&A during a period of significant expansion.
Mr. Muñiz brings substantial public company board experience, currently serving on the boards of Brookfield Infrastructure Partners LP and First Majestic Silver Corp. He also serves on the board of Sunshine Silver Mining & Refinery Company, a privately held company in Electrum’s portfolio. He previously served on the boards of Hudbay Minerals Inc. from July 2019 until May 2024, Gatos Silver, Inc. from April 2021 until it was acquired by First Majestic Silver Corp. in January 2025, and Tharsis Mining, a private company focused on copper. He is also a founding partner of Axkan Capital Partners. Mr. Muñiz holds a law degree from Universidad Iberoamericana, an LL.M. from Georgetown University, and an MBA from Instituto de Empresa in Madrid, Spain.
The Board has determined that Mr. Muñiz should serve as a Director to benefit from his experience as an executive and director of various mining and infrastructure firms, as well as his expertise in the areas of capital markets, mergers and acquisitions, finance, and corporate leadership.
